To mark the occasion a beautifully-presented volume captures a multi-dimensional perspective of an institution that has held a singular place in modern Irish church history. We Remember Maynooth: A College Across Four Centuries, edited by Salvador Ryan and JP Sheridan is a collection of essays that paints a rounded picture of a unique college, through whose hallowed halls have passed both kings and popes.
Ferns diocese particularly welcomes the publication as Fr John Paul Sheridan – a senior lecturer at Maynooth College – is the current parish priest of Annacurra, Co. Wicklow.
This splendid book is part history, part folk-history, part aide-mémoire. For some, it will be an introduction to this historic centre of learning, for others it will be an evocation of memories, reminiscences and encounters, offering portraits of characters that passed through the college and the people that journeyed with them.
With contributions by current and former faculty and alumni, including Archbishop Eamon Martin, Mary O’Rourke, Frank McGuinness, Susan McKenna-Lawlor and Liam Lawton, among many others.
The publication includes a chapter on Monsignor Patrick J. Corish (1921 to 2013), a priest of the diocese of Ferns who was Professor of History at the College. This chapter was written by Fr. Bill Cosgrave, Parish Priest of Monageer.
The book will be launched digitally on 17th November at 7.30pm
Special Guests – Professor Chris Morash (Seamus Heaney Professor of Irish Writing, Trinity College Dublin) and Bishop Dermot Farrell (Former President, Maynooth College)
