2018 marked the 50th pilgrimage from the Diocese of Ferns to Lourdes making the Diocese one of the oldest in Ireland undertaking an annual visit to the French Shrine of Our Blessed Lady and St. Bernadette. To mark the occasion of the 50th., pilgrimage a commemorative book has been prepared and will be officially launched by Bishop Denis Brennan at a reception in The Ferrycarrig Hotel on Thursday night, June 14th., at 8.30 p.m.
The book, though not a definitive history, traces the origins of the pilgrimage from 1954, when the first pilgrimage took place, to 2018 when the 50th., pilgrimage took place. It contains many old and fascinating photographs, a series of anecdotal articles from people who have made the trip – some as many as 25 times – and a huge selection of photographs, both black and white and coloured, which will almost certainly bring back happy and nostalgic memories for many.
The 100 page book entitled “Ferns-Lourdes: – A Celebration of 50 Pilgrimages” is a limited edition publication and is retailing at just €10.00 per copy. The launch in The Ferrycarrig Hotel is open to all members of the public and, in particular, to pilgrims who have shared the experience of Lourdes during any of the past 50 pilgrimages.
A night of nostalgia is promised at the launch and the hope of the publications committee is that as many as possible be present to share the nostalgia of 50 pilgrimages past.
