Fr Leo Staples was ordained for St. Patrick’s Missionary Society in 1952, and travelled to Kenya where he has spent the last 67 years living and ministering. In 2006, Fr Leo began fundraising to build a home and education facility for children with physical disabilities in the area. With the help of friends and family in Enniscorthy and Wexford, a major fundraising initiative commenced and in 2008 the first classroom and dormitory of what would become “Bobleo Children’s Home” was opened. Through continuous fundraising, the school was extended over the years and now caters for 120 able bodied day/boarding children and 97 children with disabilities.
Fr Leo said that in all his years on Mission, and of all the things he had been involved in, the “Bobleo Children’s Home” was the project that gave him the most joy.
