Certificate in Collaboration and Mission

The Diocese of Ferns is inviting lay people, pastoral workers and anyone passionate about the future of the Church to enrol in its new Foundation in Collaboration & Mission course, which begins in September 2026. Rooted in the spirit of synodality and the vision of Vatican II, the programme equips participants to work collaboratively. It combines practical theology, pastoral action and a challenge-based learning approach that integrates head (insight), heart (reflection) and hands (action).

Participants will explore the See-Judge-Act method, apply it to real pastoral situations in their own communities, and design and lead a six-month action project. The course draws on Vatican II and local experiences from the Diocese of Ferns.

Why This Course Matters

In a time of significant change, the course responds to the Church’s call to “walk together” and to form missionary disciples who can renew parishes and pastoral areas. It emphasises listening, communal discernment and practical collaboration under the guidance of the Holy Spirit – helping participants support parish councils, lead consultations and strengthen community life with confidence and faith.

Bishop Ger and the Diocese see this initiative as a concrete step towards a more vibrant, engaging and outward-facing Church, where clergy, religious and laity share co-responsibility for mission. Places are limited and candidates must be nominated by a priest in active ministry within the Diocese, a Chairperson of a pastoral council or a person completing the Diploma in Pastoral Ministry with the Diocese.
