The Diocese of Ferns marks Safeguarding Sunday on 22nd February 2026.
Safeguarding Sunday is a reminder to each of us to promote a culture of safeguarding the young and the vulnerable in our parish and across the Diocese of Ferns.
In our diocese, we value and encourage the participation of children, young people and adults in all parish activities and to this end we work together to create safe environments so that everyone feels welcome and safe.
Pope Leo speaking at the Consistory of Cardinals on the 10th January 2026 stressed that “abuse itself causes a deep wound, which may last a lifetime; but often the scandal in the Church is that the door was closed and victims were not welcomed or accompanied with the closeness of authentic pastors.”
The Holy Father shared the testimony of a victim he had spoken with recently: “She told me that the most painful part for her was that no bishop wanted to listen”. Pope Leo said, “listening is profoundly important.”
